Sound Start Babies is a nonprofit program providing life-changing, early intervention services, family support and nursery programs to infants and toddlers with hearing loss.
We now serve families in all 21 NJ counties and have seen a 50% increase from 2024 to 2025. This is made possible by you – our donors. With state funding covering less than 35% of the costs, philanthropy fuels our program.
Sound Start Babies is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supported by contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Ways to Support Sound Start Babies
Make a Cash Gift
One-time or recurring gifts can be made online via credit card, ACH, Google/Apple Pay or by sending a check payable to Sound Start Babies to P.O. Box 155, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046.
Make a Gift of Stock
Make a gift of publicly-traded securities to Sound Start Babies, potentially saving income tax and capital gains tax. Publicly-traded securities are stocks, bonds, and other investment vehicles whose values are readily available from an established securities market. To facilitate electronic transfer, receipt, and proper acknowledgement of your gift, please provide your broker with these delivery instructions.
Give via DAF
A Donor Advised Fund can provide you with immediate tax benefits while making your charitable giving easier for years to come. There are two simple options if you have already established a DAF. 1) Make an outright gift now by recommending a grant to Sound Start Babies 2)Create a succession plan to recommend that Sound Start Babies receive all or a portion of the fund value upon the termination of the fund. If you include Sound Start Babies in your plans, please let us know and be sure to use our legal name and federal tax ID (Sound Start Babies Foundation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, EIN 22-3473606)
Give from your IRA
The Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD (Qualified Charitable Distribution) is a great way to make a tax-free gift now while satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Contact your IRA administrator to request a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA to Sound Start Babies.
Make a Planned Gift
Leave a legacy that benefits babies and toddlers with hearing loss for years to come. The most common type of planned gift, a bequest, is a gift provision in your will or revocable living trust. No other planned gift is as simple to make or as easy to change, should you ever need the assets during your lifetime. Please contact us for more information; we are happy to provide sample bequest language for you and your attorney.
Host a Fundraiser for Sound Start Babies
In addition to making your own gift to Sound Start, there are many ways to invite your friends and family to make a difference including:
- Facebook fundraisers (online)
- Donations “in lieu of” (ask for donations to SSB instead of presents on a birthday, wedding or other occasion)
- Events (host a gathering to raise awareness about the program and invite individuals to give. We hope you will join us at Sound Start events throughout the year as well!)
Corporate Matching Gifts
Double (or triple!) the impact of your donation through a corporate matching gift. Check with your employer to see if they offer a match.
